22/01/08 Legends 8 - 1 BTW United

The Legends continued their good form in the Stenny Sixz league with a 8-1 drubbing of Behind the Wall United.

Gordy "Weeman" Forbes replaced Colin "Serie A" Williamson in Gaffer Mince's only change to last weeks squad. So a rotational goal keeping tactic was employed.

Leading by example Mince took the gloves for the first five minute stint. During this period BTW scored their only goal and Gaffer Mince was confirmed as Diddy of The Week.

A harmless looping corner came in from the left which looked like an easy catch for any standard of keeper, but Mince performed a David James like blunder by missing the ball completely with both hands, it his chest before raising his knee and knocking it off the inside of the post and in. The phrase "Diddy" sprung to mind.

After this the Legends looked to make up for their Gaffers gaff and Weeman saved Minces' blushes with his first of the season to square things up.

Grant "Ultra Shnoz" Morrison continued his red hot form slamming home to put the legends infront. The Legends never looked back after that. Ultra then grabbed his brace with a skillful induvidal effort. Diddy Gaffer Mince then went one on one with the keeper after being put through by Tambo to finish well. Morri then claimed his hat-trick after some overplay from the Legends. Mince then grabbed his brace as Ultra cut the ball back for Mince to finish in left-footed into the top right corner.

Hutchy and Emile both had chances to extend the lead but again like last week the keeper pulled off a string of good saves. Tambo also had chances, yes you read correctly, but he fired high and handsomely wide with one effort and Wee Man chose to ignore him on another occasion he had made a Cafu like 'surging over lap' Nae luck Tambo.

Mince then continued his Diddiness by missing a sitter at the back post after being put in by Ultra Shnoz. However it was Morri showing his nose for goal who scored the 7th and his 4th. The best goal of the night was saved till the end with Tambo, Emile, Mince, and then Gordy linking with Shnoz tearing BTW apart with Ultra himself fiishing a great move.

So Gaffer Mince yet again delighted with the performance, however there will be a few changes next week with Boab T returning along with the North Sea Tiger.

15/01/08 Legends 6 - 1 Odd Squad

The Legends kicked off the new Fivez (or Sixz as it should now be called) season with an emphatic win over diddy's Odd Squad.

This season all matches will be played across the Stenhousemuir pitch. With the rules changing to no head height; six aside and bigger goals on a bigger pitch and this suited the Legends passing game well.

Gaffer Mince had to make a forced changed to the squad with Grant "Ultra Shnoz" Morrison coming in for his fellow sizable hootered friend Boab McLean, as Boab cried off with Man Flu. Serie A took the gloves, Tambo patrolled the defence and Emile, Mince and newcomer Alan "Hutchy" Hutchison made up the team.

The Legends came out flying and were 1 - 0 up in jig time. Emile pulled the ball back from the left for Ultra to finish well for his first for the Legends. It was only a few minutes later that Ultra Shnoz grabbed his brace, yet again Emile laying off from the left after some nice inter play between Mince and Hutchy. The Legends were comforable now and stroking the ball about with ease, Serie A stopping everthing that came his way which wasn't much as Tambo kept their chances to a minimun.

It was Tambo who created the goal of the night again after some prolonged possession he flighted a ball to the back post to find Gaffer Minces' Napper, the bullet downward head took that much of a bounce it ended up in the top opposite corner. Midway through the match Ultra Shnoz fired in for his Hat-trick after cutting out a crossfield pass, then Gaffer Mince grabbed his brace with another good header after a good ball in from the left from Ultra. Ultra then grabbed the Legends last of the night, chipping the ball over the oncoming keeper. Legends really should have scored a lot more with Hutchy, Mince and Emile all missing chances and forcing the Odd Squad keeper into a few excellent saves.

Towards the end the Legends took their foot off the gas and gave Serie A something to do, he pulled off a string of great saves but eventually one got by as the Odd Squad grabbed their consolation.

So a good start to the season and the Boys enjoyed the new dimensions and surface of the park, no more running into barriers is definatly a bonus.

Gaffer Mince is likely to make a few changes next week to get everyone started so please mail him on your availability for next week.
