4/9/10 - Brightons march on in league cup - Motherwell Miners 1 Brightons 5

Brightons eventually saw off their hosts to progress to the 3rd round of the league cup.  A host of early chances were squandered including Sean Williamson seeing a penalty come back off the post before George Robinson gave Brightons the lead. Nothing special about this one though as the keeper made a howler by letting the ball squirm through his legs. That should have settled the Tons but more chances were missed and Andrew Stewart was then shown a straight red card for kicking out at an opponent who tried to rip off his shirt then get him in a head lock!!

The home team were awarded a soft penalty of their own in the 2nd half when Ross Curwood was penalised for a high boot, despite protests it should have been an indirect free kick the referee refused to change his mind. Justice seemed to be done when Joe Lavery made a fine save from the spot kick.  The home team did however draw level when Brightons failed to clear a corner and despite Lavery blocking the initial shot the rebound was fired in.  He then made a good save to keep the tie level.

Brightons finally regained their composure and Robinson skinned his man on the left and cut the ball back for Jamie Craig to side foot home.  Stuart MacDonald then shinned one into the top corner from the edge of the box and Williamson hit his 10th goal of the season from close range after Robinson's shot was saved by the keeper.  Michael Wallace completed the scoring 5 minutes from the end when when he outpaced the defence and showed his brother how it should be done with a fierce half volley that flew past the keeper.  Brightons will now play Premier League Kilsyth in the 3rd round.

2/9/10 - Brightons 3 Stirling City 0 - Good Run Continues

Brightons made it 5 wins on the trot with a comfortable 3-0 win over Stirling City. George Robinson gave Brightons an early lead with what he described as a 'SPECIAL' goal when he superbly adjusted his body to volley in the top corner from an Andrew Stewart cross that was slightly behind him.  Robinson grabbed his and Brightons 2nd midway through the half when he latched on to a through ball and slotted under the keeper.  The visitors had their best spell of the game after the break and Joe Lavery had to be on his toes to make a great save from the Stirling forward.  Robinson should have had a hat-trick but he blasted over from close range from a perfect Michael Wallace cross when it was easier to score!! Sean Williamson completed the scoring 15 minutes from the end when he converted a penalty after Stewart was brought down in the box.

The win last night followed a 5-2 cup win against Sporting and league wins over Waterside and Mearns.

18/8/10 - 3 points on the board - Stirling City 2 Brightons 4

Brightons deservedly picked up all 3 points with a victory over Stirling City.  Sean Williamson gave Brightons an early lead before the hosts equalised. Joe Lavery keep the scores level with a fine penalty save and Brightons capitalised when George Robinson scored from close range after good work from Mark Cruse.  Brightons went 3-1 up right on half time when Andrew Stewart charged down a pass back then slotted home.

A host of further chances were spurned in the 2nd half but eventually an excellent move ended with Stewart squaring for Robinson to increase the lead before the home team scored a late 2nd.

14/8/10 - Opening Day Defeat - Gourock 3 Brightons 0

A horror opening 20 minutes saw Brightons lose 3 goals and leave themselves with a mountain to climb in their league opener.  Despite dominating the 2nd half and creating numerous chances the Tons couldn't get that elusive goal to get them back in the game and it was the home side who took the 3 points.

Scottish Cup Draw

Fresh from the game in the charity tournament Brightons (home club)  will again take on Bo'ness Amateurs after the clubs were drawn together in the 2nd round of the Foster's Scottish Amateur Cup.  Date to be confirmed.

Linlithgow Thistle Charity Tournament - Sunday 8th August 2010

Brightons remained undefeated with 3 draws in the pre season charity tournament but it wasn't enough to progress from the group stages to the semi finals.  A tight opening game against hosts Linlithgow Thistle ended in a 0-0 draw and although Brightons took the lead in the following 2 games against Bo'ness Amateurs through Mark Cruse and Bridgend United from a Ross Curwood thunderbolt that was on his Facebook page before it hit the net (see below) they were pegged back in each game to draw 1-1.

Camelon Albion went on to win the tournament defeating Stenhousemuir Amateurs on penalties after the final finished in a 1-1 draw.  Full tournament details can be found here

Many thanks to everyone at Linlithgow Thistle for all their hard work in organising a fantastic tournament.  Brightons £100 donation from the tournament is going to The Children's Hospice Association Scotland (CHAS - Rachel House)
