Colville Park 2 Brightons 0
Brightons lost out in this league encounter with 5 minutes of madness after the break ultimately costing them dear. It was a good start from Brightons on the excellent playing surface with Martin and Exeter in the middle of the park feeding the wide men of Sweeney and Irvine at every opportunity to test the Colville back line but Brightons just lacked that final cutting edge to make the early break through.
Martin then pounced on a loose ball in midfield and his first time pass released Darren McCourtney who raced in on goal only to be cynically brought down from the back and the defender very fortunate only to see a yellow. Sweeney stung the hands of the keeper from the resultant free kick before Colville cleared the danger. The home keeper then flapped at a corner but Neil Porteous could only head over.
The game then levelled out and the home striker fired a great ball across the goal mouth but there were no takers to finish the move. The big forward then sneaked in behind the defence but Tony Sime was out quick and the forward could only shoot high and wide as the teams went in level at the break.
Colville came out fired up after the break and lifted the tempo and just as Brightons looked to have weathered the storm they lost possession and the ball was quickly moved out to the right flank and an inch perfect cross was nodded in from 6 yards leaving Sime with no chances. With Brightons on the back foot the home team took full advantage and a quick passing move, this time down the left, created time and space for the full back to hit a beauty across Sime into the far corner.
The Tons had Sime to thank for keeping the score down as he made a fantastic double save from the big striker after Porteous was caught dwelling on the ball and he continued his fine recent form by making a great full length save from the same player from a 20 yard free kick. Brightons gradually got back into the game and Martin fed Graham Speirs from a free kick but his normal excellent touch deserted him and the chance was gone and the same player fired over from close range after the keeper had parried a shot from McCourtney.
Colville did have the ball in the net again but Brightons received the benefit of the doubt from the ref and it was chalked off for offside and the home team ran out deserved 2-0 winners.
Brightons travelled to Redbrae (last night) and have a home game this Saturday against Garrowhill Thistle and entertain Colville Park in the reverse league fixture on Monday 13th April.
