Brightons Football Club were formed in 1990 by founder and now secretary Wallace Alexander. The club was initially set up at U15 level, made up of local boys from the surrounding areas of Brightons and played in the Stirlingshire leagues.
The club progressed through the age groups up to U21 level winning the Carmuirs Cup and the U21 league title along the way, with a team that included current players Gareth Alexander and David Martin as well as long time treasurer Brian Martin.
The club then stepped up to Amateur level and joined the Lothian and Edinburgh league before making the move to the McEwan's Central Scottish League, now called the Foster's Central Scottish League which is widely regarded as Scotland's top amateur football league. The club have enjoyed success in the Foster's league winning the M&M cup in 2001/02 and the Division 1B title in season 2006/07, a season in which striker Jamie McLean was named Division 1 player of the year.
That meant the club took the step up to the Premier Division to play against some of the best teams in amateur football week in week out including Drumchapel United, Harestanes, Eddlewood and Colville Park and the club finished a respectable 8th in their first season in the Premier League. The clubs achievements didn't go unnoticed with several players called up to the Central Scottish select team and Gareth Alexander called up the Scotland Amateur squad on 3 occasions.
The loss of several key players and a poor start to the following season saw the club struggle on the park and relegation followed.
New coach Allan Walker took over in season 2009/10 and again, despite losing a number of key players, Brightons battled through the season. The close season has seen a much needed influx of new players and the squad now has a good mixture of youth and experience and will hopefully be challenging for a place in the Premier League again next May.
Season 2010/11 saw a dramatic upturn in the clubs fortunes both on and off the park. A new sponsorship deal was agreed with The Auld Vic Inn and the new squad gelled quickly and Brightons made a good start to the league campaign and also enjoyed a run in the Scottish Cup. Brightons were paying catch up with league games in the run in and despite a great run of results they were pipped to the league title by Ashvale Victoria and had to settle for a play off place. First up was 1B runners up Stedfast and with home advantage 2 late goals from Sean Williamson and Michael Wallace set the Tons up for the away trip to Uddingston Anvil. Wallace again was on target giving Brightons an early lead which they were to hold on to and despite Uddingston's best attempts, Joe Lavery in the Brightons goal would not be beat and promotion back to the Premier League was secured.
